Between us, we've worked at Meta, Two Sigma, Morgan Stanley, and across startups and VC. We've been on the candidate side too. We've seen what good engineering actually looks like on the job, and how little the interview process does to find it.

Litmus was inspired by watching Shaivi's brother, a Series A founder, spend weeks running back to back interviews and still walk away unsure about who to hire. That wasn't a rare problem. That's just what hiring looks like right now.

Here's what we believe: what it means to be a developer has fundamentally changed. AI is part of every engineer's workflow now, but the way companies evaluate candidates hasn't moved at all. You're still being asked to reverse a linked list for a job that will never ask you to do that. The fastest teams need people who can contribute from day one, and the only real way to know if someone can is to see how they work in your context, on your problems, the way your team actually builds.
